S/mileage’s Major Debut 10,000 Smiling Faces Challenge Announced

adode13 February 28, 2010 Comments Off

It has just been recently announced that S/mileage will debut in May … but there is a catch: It will only happen if 10,000 fans send in a picture of their smiling face, otherwise their debut will be postponed or even cancelled.

There is a video of Tsunku announcing the challenge to S/mileage and it’s safe to say that they were surprised and eager to start the challenge, especially Kanon:

Video uploaded by: upfrontchannel

Here is a more detailed instructional of how to participate thanks to turbos86:

Tsunku is asking for every fan in the world (Yes, he said world, not just Japan) for our smile pictures. All the pictures collected in this campaign will be made into a mosaic board of size 2 meter by 4 meter big. The campaign will run from now until March 25th midnight, Japan time.

Since most of us are outside of Japan, the submit via computer method will apply to most of us.
Use this form: http://form.s-mileage.jp/form

Then follow these steps:

1) Enter your information

2) Confirm what you have entered

3) Upload your photo

Click the Browse button and find your photo on your computer, then click the Upload photo button to submit.

If you have done everything correctly, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please redo the entire process.

*1 picture per person only*

This is an incredible way for fans to show their support and include them in some way, similar to the Momusu OPV contest last summer. I’m glad to see that Tsunku did mention all of the fans in the world since he obviously knows that overseas fans would participate in some way.

Please participate in the challenge, it’s not that difficult since you only have to take a picture of your face while smiling and send it in. It doesn’t take more than 10 min to do it and you would be helping S/mileage in their challenge (which slightly reminds me of Momusu’s “sell 50,000 copies of your single to debut” challenge).

Let’s show Tsunku and UFA how many S/mileage supporters there are in the world!

The challenge will end on March 25 at midnight (JST). The results of the challenge will be revealed at the 4/3 Mano Erina and S/mileage concert at C.C. Lemon Hall in Shibuya.

Form To Participate In S/mileage’s 10,000 Smiling Faces Challenge

EDIT: According to this video they want S/mileage to glue all the pictures onto the board themselves, so at least you’re picture will be among the 10,000 and you will get a chance to have you’re picture seen by the members personally.

Also I just sent in my picture and here is how the confirmation should look after you submit your photo (this is how it looked for me at least):

After that you will receive an email from the site:

I took some information out but it’s mostly just my email address and my age. If you receive an email from them then most likely your photo was processed.

Remember to send in pictures of yourself smiling!

  • Zhu Bajie

I’ve just sent a foto of mine while smilling~
    Thanx for information~
I also translate that complicated word on google translate~
    But I Luv doing this~

  • Fungies22

I just sent my smiling pic :) Thank you sooo much for the step by step translation :) S/mileage is definitely gonna debut this spring :)

    • adode136

Thanks for participating in the challenge to support S/mileage! (^o^)/

The step by step translation is courtesy of turbos86 at H!O but it is easy to understand if you know some hiragana and katakana ^_^

They will debut this spring, thanks to the many overseas fans who are participating ^o^

  • telovi

I just send my photo. The taking picture process take 10 minute but the sending process only take 10 seconds. The confirmations email was send to me very quick.

I’m very impressed with the girl ability to produce unlimited cute smile. It took me like forever to get my best shot. I guess that the reason why tsunku choose this four girl to form a group named S/mileage.

    • adode136

Same thing for me, it took me about 2 min to fill everything out, get the photo and in 10 seconds I got the email ^_^

It took me 200 photos and 30 min to get a nice picture to send XD
But at least I got about 10 pictures to use for my Facebook page ^_^

S/mileage and all of H!P are naturally talented at that (Hirano Tomomi is getting better at it), they just arrive pose for 30 min and leave with a paycheck XD

  • AnGelYuA

OMG!!! 0_0 Ado, i received 2 emails at 2 dif timeslots… tats mean i manage to send both the large image n the small image 0_0 does tis mean i wil be disqualified since i spam? OMG!!! why must tis happen to me!!! so not deserving…. NO!!!! ARH!!! :O

    • adode136

I wouldn’t worry that much about it, they will probably only use one ^_^

I doubt they will check them until the end and I can almost guarantee that they have someone checking the pictures right now and most likely if they see a duplicate they just erase one, so no problem there ^_^

  • AnGelYuA

okie tks, i hope i made it in time to be in the 10000 :) guess its reali a good way to promote a new group debut using tis method, i nver imagine he wil go to tis extent, but overall Smileage will definitely be a successful hello! project group in the future :D

    • adode136

I am sure you made it into the 10,000, I highly doubt they would cut out all of the pictures over 10,000 and if they receive more than that amount they will probably just add them on ^_^

It’s a fun challenge and if they succeed then Tsunku will be very surprised, especially if they do it in a week instead of the month he gave them XD

From my calculations there are probably about 200 fans overseas who have already sent them (from what I can see on comments on H!O, JPH!P, Musume-Central, JpopMusic, etc. although I am probably guessing extremely low) so hopefully we can show S/mileage that they have our full support ^_^

  • AnGelYuA

btw ado, how do u resize the image? dun mind mi asking such stupid question :P

    • adode136

It’s not stupid at all ^_^
My mom has no idea how to do it either XD

If you have Windows then I would just use “Microsoft Office Picture Manager”. I have no idea if anyone else has it but my version of Windows came with it already installed so you might have it.

Just right click the picture, and choose “Open With” and choose “Microsoft Office Picture Manager”. Then go to “Picture”, “Resize” and choose a setting (I would choose “Percentage of original width x height” and 50%).

Make sure the picture is big enough for you to see it well (I would say no smaller than 900 in height if it’s a taller picture, and no smaller than 1000 width if it’s a wide picture, but if you can, use 1200 or higher for the smallest setting, either height or width).

After that just click Save and you are done ^_^

If you don’t have “Microsoft Office Picture Manager” then just comment back with the name of the photo editing software you have and I will try and help ^_^

  • http://ninaliciousworld.blogspot.com Nina

it’s a good way to get supporters/maker sure there will be supporters
but wow, it’s pretty darn mean to the s/mileage members
but whatever, i’ve sent in my pic, and from what i can see, even a bunch of oversees fans have sent in their pics, so s/mileage should (hopefully) have no problems debuting :)

    • adode136

I doubt they will have trouble with this challenge ^_^

And it is somewhat unexpected but it’s not that mean, I highly doubt Tsunku would just cancel their debut since he has worked very hard to promote them to just throw it all away. It’s probably just a fun challenge, in a similar way to Momusu’s challenge of selling 50,000 copies of their single to debut ^_^

Although I’m glad that Tsunku didn’t make them sell 50,000 copies of their single to debut XD

      • http://ninaliciousworld.blogspot.com Nina

yeah, if tsunku would just postpone their debut, then it’s not that mean, but if he actually cancels it after all their hard work, that would be really mean >.<

but i doubt that s/mileage would have trouble with this challenge so :DD

  • AnGelYuA

does the pic upload hav limit size? coz mine like 2.3mb took more den 10 mins n its forever like sending request… stil not yet sent… 0_0 or maybe its server thingy?

    • adode136

You can always re-size the picture. Mine was the same size as yours but I just reduced the size a bit (about 200KB) and I sent it and it got processed fast ^_^

If it doesn’t process in 10 min then I would say just re-size it and try again ^_^

  • AnGelYuA

:((( ooh bothered i m so late to hear abt tis news, maybe i wont be able to get in the 10000 faces :(( but i wil stil show my support though! S/mileage will definitely debut wit many more fans smiles ^^

    • adode136

I still think you have time, the challenge ends by 3/25, there is about a month to get the pictures in ^_^

I doubt that they got 10,000 already but they should at least have 1,000 pictures from overseas fans if we all pitch in ^o^

There is still time to send in your smiling face ^_^
I’m just about to send mine in ^o^

  • http://blog404.wordpress.com Kishiko

Just say no! The more people support s/mileage, the lower the quality of future releases will become. This is all I want to say regarding this matter.

    • adode136

Actually that is somewhat reversed, if more people support a group the higher quality in songs since that means that UFA is more willing to spend on PVs, promotion, etc.

If a group doesn’t have that much support they just disband since the public doesn’t show interest and as a result their few last songs aren’t that great since UFA reserves the best songs for other more popular groups.

Anyways everyone has an opinion and I just wanted to state mine ^_^

      • http://blog404.wordpress.com Kishiko

More people supporting s/mileage, means a greater incentive for The Man to create more groups with no talent, like this one. In other words, if people buy this, why bother to create something better.

        • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Hontou_Concerto/index/ Michi

Uh… dude. Everyone is s/mileage is better than a good deal of performers in H!P. And in case you haven’t noticed: They’re barely teens (early teens). They’re allowed not to be the greatest singers in the world. =P
(And H!P doesn’t concentrate solely on singing. It’s more of a starting point for the Idol world.)

  • http://noayosei.wordpress.com Noa

Wow! Recognition of all the world-wide fans from the great Tsunku himself! What an honour…
By the looks of things, they might need a bigger wall.

I’m definately going to participate, just need to find that camera…
I might even get my little brother to do it too…

Everyone! Let’s work hard together to help S/mileage debut.

The more photos from outside Japan, the more attention well get as another audience (which might increase the number off overseas tours and marketing)

  • Amatsu

anything about privacy on the photos? I want to help s/mileage but a bit uncomfortable sending pics.

    • adode136

Well the pictures are going to be shown on a mosaic board 2 meters by 4 meters big so they are going to show your picture in some way, but 10,000 pictures on a board that size isn’t that big so I doubt anyone will go “I know him!” XD

Using my math skills, which aren’t that powerful, I would say that the picture would be about 8 cm or 12 cm big (I am most likely wrong but the picture would be small).

I am a bit camera shy but I am sending a picture just to help them and to show support. I highly doubt anyone I know will keep an eye out for a 2 by 4 meter board in Japan with my picture on it XD

It’s entirely up to you though ^_^

    • http://heartsgrowrox.blogspot.com/ C’est la Vie

I was uncomfortable too. So, I sent in a picture with me wearing sunglasses. ^-^ Since they’re looking for “smiles”, I don’t think it’ll matter ^-^

      • adode136

I just took a photo (after 200 tries) and sent it XD

I want them to know that there are overseas fans that support them, but I would have used sunglasses too if I had them (thankfully I didn’t and I just sent it in) ^_^

I hope Kanon sees my picture ^o^

  • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Hontou_Concerto/index/ Michi

Totally gonna take a picture and send, despite being camera shy~ <3
(I highly doubt that Tsunku would actually cancel their debut, but I'm scared of it being postponed…)

  • sweetiecandy

  • Hannah-chan

Me and my sister sent our picture, and we are from denmark, I’m sure they’ll beat 10,000 in no time!!! Go S/mileage ^^

  • http://meyouu.wordpress.com/ Meyouu

    I’m sure there’s a missing ,000 somewhere…

    • adode136

10,000,000? 0.0 We would need the entire population of Hungary to take a smiling photo and send it so that they can get that amount XD

  • Lulu

    10,000 pics in NOTHING!

S/mileage is gonna beat that in a week!

    *sends pic*

    GO S/MILEAGE!
