Morning Musume 9th Generation Finalist Details Released

ladylibra92 December 25, 2010 45

The names and ages of the finalists for Morning Musume’s 9th Generation have been released.

They are as followed:

Ikuta Erina, 13 years old

Otsuka Aina, 12 years old

Sayashi Riho, 12 years old

Suzuki Kanon, 12 years old

Mogi Minami, 11 years old

From the Bijou Gaki video of the audition I think all of them would fit into Morning Musume very well. This is something I thought I never would’ve said because I was sure I wouldn’t like the 9th generation. Most of them exceeded my expectations in singing and dancing and for those of them that didn’t, I can see them improving in those skills.

I also don’t think they’re performing at their best and they are only trying to be at their best. The audition is probably making them stress and/or nervous and I’m sure all of them have messed up because of it. Plus getting harsh words from the instructors or maybe even Tsunku may lower their moral and make them perform less than their best.

Anyways the finalists that have caught my eye the most are Mogi Minami and Sayashi Riho. Mogi I’ll admit is not the strongest out of all of them but I can definitely see her improving and the fact that she’s 11 years old is what makes her stand out. If she is selected as a member she will be the youngest member to join in Morning Musume’s history.

Sayashi Riho caught my eye in singing and dancing. When she sings she does it energetically and I feel that’s an important trait to have since singing Koko ni Iruzee in a “dead” voice will ruin the performance. Also she seems the least nervous and stressed out of all of them, most likely because she had experienced an audition before and knows what it’s like so she’s able to sing with more of her personality showing.

Ikuta Erina stands out more to me in dancing. In her dancing she seems to give it 110% and she almost reminds of of Gaki in her dancing. It’s hard to explain but both of them take their dancing seriously however at the same time they’re dancing as themselves and they don’t try too hard.

Suzuki Kanon and Otsuka Aina are very talented, I like both their singing and dancing but they don’t stand out as much as the other three.

Regardless of that I wish them all good luck in the final days of the audition and if they are not chosen for Morning Musume hopefully the broadcast of the audition will get their names and faces out in the Entertainment Industry.

The 9th generation members will be announced at the H!P Winter Concert on 1/2/2011.

Update: I found the video of the audition on Bijou Gaki. The video has been uploaded on youtube so please watch it before it’s taken down.

ohh never mind~~ the winners just released
    CONGRATZZZZ MIZUKI;RIHO;KANON;ERINA!!!!!

  • http://www.hellproject.com/news zoe-chan

    hey,
1/2/2011~ does that mean 1st feb or 2nd jan??
I hope Kanon and Riho get in

  • rasune7

    Sayashi Riho should win.

  • http://google Girl

Dont like them at all, They all are too young..DONT PICK ANY OF THEM!

    • adode136

They are all roughly the same age as Goto Maki, Kago Ai, and many other Morning Musume members when they joined ^_^

If they picked older applicants it would be somewhat more difficult for them to learn a different singing and dancing technique they are used to, which is why they pick someone young since they can basically “mold” them and teach them how to sing correctly and dance in a certain way ^_^

  • nekoshinigami

I have 2 girls that I really want to have in 9th gen, and they are Riho and Aina. If they planned on adding a 3rd member, I would probably go with Erina, although she’s about tied with Kanon in my books. I don’t really like Minami that much, but then again, my opinion of H!P members changes over time. Still, I wish all 5 of them the best of luck and can’t wait to see the results on the 2nd!

  • Rena-chan

… why do I have a feeling Sayu could adopt Aina there like she was a sister? well that;d be good anyways; koha had a little tag along (Kira*Pika), might as well give the remaining half of Rainbow Pink a tag along.

I also kinda like Mogi. she’s got that little bit of a charm to her that just seems unique. personally it seems there’s more to her than meets the eye background wise. I like her that way.

i’m content with anyone though, those are simply my preferences. They all seem very unique and very talented indeed!

  • http://hellosekaiiken.wordpress.com hellosekaiiken

Hm…I think that Kanon has the looks to get by, but her singing really needs some work. She’s okay at dancing. She looks like a mix of Manoeri and Airi (when she was really young, like in Aa!) to me!
Sayashi seems like a good addition because she’s talented in all areas – singing, dancing, and stage presence. But Tsunku always surprises us by not picking those we’re expecting, so I’m not going to make any predictions!!
I’m not sure what I think about Mogi…I think she has very distinctive facial features and kind of has a chance..but she still seems to lack confidence. I tend to support the underdogs/people who get less lines (like Maasa, Ucchi from Canary Club, etc) so I kind of want her to make it!! And am I the only one who thinks she kind of looks like a young Risako??

  • nacchiholic

How many New members will they add?

    • ladylibra92

Nobody knows. They never let anyone know if they’re going to add 1 member or 4. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  • fungies22

I dont know why but I’m actually rooting for Mogi. She
doesnt look like the typical idol which might be
a good thing. Plus her name is cute to chant during
    concerts. MOOOOGIIIII!!!! :P

  • mieru

Riho, Erina, and Yuu (egg)! FOSHO!

Aina – too wimpy; I don’t think she’d fit in with Morning Musume
Minami – cried way too much. Doesn’t have any self-confidence and no energy when dancing.
Kanon – good looks, decent dancing, horrible singing voice. Just no.

  • skrcs

to tell the truth i dont really like Minami at all… but the other girls really look like they’ve got what it takes….

    Hwaiting

  • Mayarrrr

Minami is so-so in Singing and Dancing(She’s probably the least talented of the bunch) but I hope she’ll be added. She sems like she’s try really hard :) Like Sayu! OH GOD SAYU D: I remember first seeing HER audition D: And Minami is kinda cute too but the girl’s only 11. I feel bad at all the crying she did.

Riho can dance and sing really well. She’s probably the best at dancing by FAR. Looks a little like Sakitty from S/mileage XD

Aina is probably the best singer (a bit better than Riho) and was not bad at dancing. She’s cute too^^ I think she’s my new fave XD I change my mind! I want, Ai, Aika and Aina :D

Kanon wasn’t bad at dancing but her singing was like :/ at parts. She has a lovely voice but went off a bit.

Erina’s singing was shaky too but she was my 2nd favourite. She’s also kawaii^^

I think alhough Riho is the best I think she’s my least fave now XD I tend to go for the ones at the back(I.e Mittsi) But I want all 5 of them :/ I’m thinking of them all as part of Momusu XD

  • http://http://www.hello-online.org/index.php?/user/109772-angelia/ Miiiira

Minami is my favourite. Absolutely. If she joins Momusu, she’ll be my favourite idol. Her singing/dancing is a bit weak, but I think it’s just her nerves. She’s so stunning though! c:
I’d love to see her improve.

    Kanon is my runner-up favourite.

Actually, I want all the girls to get a spot in Morning Musume. It would be a great refreshment.

  • gemsgod

I get a strong feeling that Tsunku won’t choose the most talented girl (again).
He likes girl with team character who doesn’t stand out too much. Remember what the 8th gen audition result? So, (sadly) Riho’s chance is rather thin.

Though, please prove me wrong Tsunku!!

  • NeChan

My favorites are Sayashi Riho, Suzuki Kanon and Mogi Megumi, but they are all impressive!!
Sayashi Riho is really cute and dances really well, Suzuki Kanon is cute and happy and I think Mogi Megumi sings really well!
I hope they will all get into Morning Musume… :D

  • Truk

This is the best the auditions has to offer. I see more talent and looks on Nicovideo. Just when I thought I might have a reason to be excited by MM, guess not.

    • adode136

Well, most 11-13 year olds won’t be as talented as Ayumi Hamasaki from the first time they start dancing or singing in front of music producers, it takes time and practice to perfect any talents they might have ^_^

    • http://ismichi.deviantart.com michi

These girls (well, minus Riho) are total newbs and are at an audition process, two things that most on NND don’t go through in their uploads. Plus, there are no outtakes in an audition, while NND uploaders can do it over-and-over again, until they get it right, before presenting it online. You’re also forgetting that there’s no modification of vocals with these girls (autotune, audio clean-up, etc.), which those on NND have access to before upload.
(Basically, NND uploaders have time to re-do anything they dislike, as well as modify the material to their pleasure. These girls only get one chance and present their natural vocal ability.)

  • Shaye

If I had to pick, I would have Aina, Riho, and Kanon, with one well-known, slightly older egg thrown in. I think it’s too much of a jump to have two 12 year olds and a 13 year old and then Mittsi, who is 17.

I love Kanon already, I’ll be devastated if she doesn’t get in. I desperately need a new favorite since my turtle and pandas have left… and every time Kanon comes on screen, I can’t help but think “SHE’S SO CUTE!!!!!” And I really like how even though she struggled with the dance at first, she worked really hard, and pulled it off with a smile on her face!

    • ladylibra92

I agree with you on the age differences there.. I think just having a big gap in age like that kinda throws off the group… I’m hoping that an egg is added as a 9th gen member *crosses fingers**

      But we’ll see…

      • Shaye

Especially since that’s what I always thought that’s what Eggs were FOR. To take girls barely old enough to walk and train them up into superidols, ready to be added at the drop of a hat to a group.

Maybe (and I’m really hoping here) that is what these “….. Has completed her egg training.” Is about, maybe they might be candidates too….

As long as Riho and Kanon get in, I’ll be good. Kanon is too cute and perky to not get in and Riho is too talented to not get in.

  • http://n3i-cnjx.blogspot.com/ N3i

Erina, Riho and Kanon… xD Im rooting for these three. I agree that none of them have a powerful voice and that’s sad…. But to make up for that we have Riho’s awesome dancing!! :OO

Riho’s like… SUPAHWOMANDANCER. I really hope she gets in… I think she deserves it. Her professionalism can be used in MoMosu.. like seriously.

Kanon is sooo soo adorable. xD I bet she’ll be one of those humorous people in a group! And I love humorous people~ They’re so fun. Besides, she does look like she’s having fun. Only her dancing skills look awkward. xDD She should work on that.

As for Erina.. probably the only thing I like about her is her looks. She kind of has the dancing skills going but it still looks awkward. Her voice seems to crack so much too. But ah well, I hope she improves. Then again, she looks like she’s trying a lot harder but doesn’t really show it. She also has that tiny bit of professionalism. :D

I personally think Minami is sort of… uh… trying hard. xD I can’t blame her though. She’s the youngest among the finalists. I also think she’s annoying, imo. But I don’t hate her. It just needs time for her to get used to it I guess.

Aina’s vocals are awesome! :O Not powerful but I think she has the best vocas among all five of them. I don’t see any appeal for now but she does have the best vocals out of the 5 finalists. Not very much on dancing but hey.. they can all improve.

Aaaaaand~ Can’t wait for the announcement. xDD I have a feeling that I’ll be shocked at the decision… lol it’s haunting meeee… .___.

  • Teacup

I have to agree about Riho, she conducts herself much more smoothly in the very difficult audition setting, she seems pretty strong all around whether or not that’s innate talent, experience, or a combination. Erina may not have the stage professionalism that Riho does but she more mature. She seems like someone who would be reliable, and it also helps that she’s 13 – which isn’t all that old, but does give her a year on everyone else. And oh Kanon! She has a joyful earnestness which I <3. She is enjoyable to watch as a performer and a person. Aina seems like she's also hardworking and a great person. So far she isn't a standout for me but heck yeah, I'd love it if she was added too. And, Minami. She doesn't seem to be getting any positive feedback in her experience and it's weighing on her. She looks like a great girl but I don't know if she'll be able to push through the other talent in this audition. She will probably be cut ( :( ) but good luck to her — I, for one, think she can push through her weaknesses and through the negativity.

  • Fe Mota

I love Riho, Aina e Ikuta XD

  • RihoLoveChan

Haha i guess im not the only one who adores Riho??
she’s very pretty and her voice is adorable!!! AAAAANNNNDDD im her age <3
    Riho = Rikitty ;)

i believe Rikitty will be the one chosen ^o^
    but…….for the weakest one,i'd have to say………..Minami.
    and i say Riho+Aina
    Aina = Akitty

  • Mayaaaa

    Ikuta and Riho Kawaii~

  • http://ai-doru.blogspot.com Cristelle

Kanon and Riho both look very promising.
Kanon just seems to be bursting with energy all the time, I love the way she’s always smiling. Riho on the other hand, is a lot more professional than the other girls and you can totally tell that she’s a lot more used to critique than the other auditionees. She’s the only one that seems to anticipate Tsunku asking her how she did when she got out of the recording booth. I can see how her “professionalism” can be a little off putting (I personally saw her as the jaded girl next to all these wide-eyed auditionees who stammered and quaked at their instructors every word.)
I’m really adamant on getting a good vocalist into the group however, and as far as I can tell none of these girls have stand out voices. Of course one can always say that it’s too early to tell, but not really. Ai’s voice definitely stood out compared to her fellow fourth gen. when she was auditioning. The fact that there doesn’t seem to be any of those… T0T

As for this round’s weakest link, Minami… I hate to say this, but I would REALLY appreciate it if Tsunku cut her out of this gen. not to say that she doesn’t have potential, but (to give her the benefit of the doubt) the way BG seems to be presenting her to the audience makes her look absolutely hapless, not in a way that makes us want to root for her, but in a way that just makes her absolutely annoying. If they really wanted us to sympathize with her, they would show us a Minami that tries harder, that doesn’t break down at EVERY.SINGLE.STAGE of the audition, and that practices at home with more passion.

    • Candy

I’m rooting for Mogi, so you can’t say that goes for everyone. She doesn’t seem annoying to me either. She didn’t break down at EVERY performance. At the last performance, not only did she remember EVERY step, but she didn’t cry or stop in the middle. That’s progress.

I don’t think Mogi will make it. I love her and I want her to make it. I love all the members who other people say have no talent and get no attention. But not only does she have no love from anyone, she’s very timid, get’s nervous easily, and is shy (based on my observations)

  • Giulia

I’m really excited for January 2nd!!!
My favorite is Sayashi Riho, but that goes without saying because she is clearly the most talented out of the 5 girls. I know that Riho has been in the public eye for some time and maybe that will help her with the auditions? I guarantee she’s used to the audition process and she seems alot calmer than the other four girls when auditioning.
Now, I know now is not the time to be critisizing their voices because Morning Musume is there to help mature their voices so I’m not going to critique on that :) I mean, when Ai first joined Morning musume, she did not have the voice that she has now.

I also think that Tsunku should add 3 girls to Morning Musume after this audition. Like ladylibra, I think that drafting all five of them would be too much of a change for morning musume and I believe that the fans need something structured right now. Like the first and second generations, I think that drafting two to three girls is the ideal. I mean, you have the newbies and than you have the experienced members. That way, Morning Musume isn’t suffering a great change, but yet change is still happening.

I like Sayashi Riho, I believe that she will be chosen, but I also really like Erina and Aina. Erina seems really energetic and she would be a great addition, while Aina looks like she has alot of potential to be great.

Now, Minami. I believe she dosen’t have what it takes to be a Morning Musume member, but this is just my opinion. She’s continuously crying and does not appear to show any energy while preforming alongside the other girls. Maybe she’s too young and inexperianced? I’m well aware that if she’s chosen, she’d be the youngest Morning Musume member ever chosen, but I just don’t think she has the stamina.
While she was dancing in front of the instructor, she cried. She sang in front of Tsunku, she cried. I don’t think she’s ready.

  • Lulu

IM SO EXCITED FOR JANUARY 2ND!!!

    Minami is my favorite!!!

    I hope he puts in 4 members…
Because many other generations have been 4 members!
    Like, 4th,5th,6th,7th…. etc… XD

I want Minami, Kanon, and Riho! to b in it!!! >.<

    • http://ismichi.deviantart.com michi

      “Suzuki Kanon”
      Initial thought process: Heh, weeaboo.
(PLEASE tell me that I’m not the only one that thought that! XD)

Okay, why must everyone constantly proclaim “Riho’s a shoe-in” just because she’s professional at an audition? It makes me wonder if those same people watched the second-half: they’re all relatively at the same level (singing and dancing). Once everyone-but-Riho (’cause there’s no better way to phrase it) were out of the studio, their ego rose and were no longer self-conscious [compared to when being instructed and practicing in-studio]. As for Riho, she seemed calmer and not in the “look at me!”-mode.
When it came to the dancing before Tsunku, they were all on-time and only had some confidence differences (besides personality). During the singing-part, Kanon was clearly trying too hard. As for Mogi, I think a major confidence boost is needed for her, but she did improve her composure drastically, compared to before, when she presented herself before Tsunku. The rest were either nervous or calm (Riho), but though everyone was in it to impress Tsunku, Riho was the only one in a “look at me!”-mode. XD

When the images of these five were revealed, I was fond of Kanon and Mogi. Kanon needs to learn that “more is not the better”, and Mogi needs a confidence boost though she did get stronger. But I think I’m still fond of these two. =3
As for skill level, both singing and dancing, everyone’s is not too different from each-other. Mogi has a lack of confidence, while the rest are either confident or not-as-lacking as Mogi. Riho acts stronger during performances, but she is used to such conditions while the others are total newbs. She’s not a “shoe-in” because she can act professional. Tsunku works in strange ways, so he may or may not work how we would like him; hasn’t people learnt that, yet? XD

My current belief in who passes: everyone, but Riho.
(Mwuahahah, I’m in the lowest percentage of 9th gen predictions >D)
Tsunku is used to seeing girls being nervous at auditions and then become awesome performers; these girls are old enough to realize that it’s a business, and not just for fun (I can assume he knows this). He knows that the performance at an audition process is only a way to see potential growth, and not only who-is-better-than-who.
Heck, even if you hated Koha, you should still be able to recognize how much better she became (and for most how “Kirarin Revolution” influenced her voice [in a negative way]) after her audition and beginning practices (Yossie gave her a confidence boost).
However, if Riho does pass, I can already see her being given a good amount of lines. Seeing her popularity for just auditions (which she may or may not have passed), it’s understandable of how she would quickly become a popular member. =3

(I have nothing against Riho, for anyone that thinks I do. I find her face and name cute, her learning ability great, and her composure is great for business. If Tsunku needs someone to quickly step-in quickly, Riho is a great choice. However, I don’t think that only her professionalism is what will get her to pass; if singing’s her passion, she can easily make it elsewhere, and won’t have to rely on a company such as H!P.)

      orz, I don’t know how I’ll come-off with this… so much text, and only a few proof-reads. /fail

      • http://ismichi.deviantart.com michi

        Crap, crap, crap…!
Why’d it reply to someone?! Q_Q
        Sorry!!

  • adode136

Riho and Kanon are my favorites so far ^_^

Riho is extremely talented and seems like a perfect member for Momusu, while Suzuki Kanon has a cute voice and looks a bit like Sayu and Mano (talent and looks, both are the perfect addition to the next generation) ^_^

I can’t wait to find out who won, they all have something unique to their advantage, so hopefully they pick the best members (I’m happy with Riho and Kanon, but I would love to see others make it too) ^o^

Great job on the post! (^o^)/

  • Hanachi

Riho, Minami, and Kanon are sooo cute.. XD I think some of them will be the winner..

  • http://tommyvd.wordpress.com/ TommyVD

How about letting all five of them in? That way each current member can mentor a new member, sort of like how they did it with the 3rd and 4th gens.

And yes, if Tsunku-san doesn’t put Riho in MM than we have proof that he really has gone insane.

    • ladylibra92

      I don’t think we’ll ever know what’s going on in Tsunku’s head… XD

  • http://mitsukiaiko.blogspot.com Aiko

Wow, the H!P Winter Concert is my birthday, then I can enjoy my birthday with the resukt of this :) XD

  • Lea

k, so I am impressed. These girls look promising. Especially Ikuta Erina & Sayashi Riho. Hopefully Tsunku makes this generation AT LEAST a 3 member one. 2 is too little and 5 seems like too much.
Some reason though, on the 2nd pic of Suzuki Kanon…she looks like Mano Erina!! O.o

    • ladylibra92

3 or 4 seems like the perfect number for this generation, we’ll just have to see who he adds.

  • http://mitsukiaiko.blogspot.com Aiko

Minami is the one who cried in the video? 0_0

I like Riho only ;)) Her face looks like Aika’s :-?

    • ladylibra92

It seems as though Riho is everyone’s favorite so far out of all the finalist. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. :)

  • Corby

I’m happy with all of them!
Everyone seems to be impressed with Riho, and even I believe she’s a shoe-in.. :/ I hope Tsunku decides to put them all in though. ;-; Maybe he might think that one 5-nin gen is too much to overpower the current other 5 members..?
Anyways, I still hope he adds in Eggs if he doesn’t keep all 5.

    • ladylibra92

If he does decide to add them all I think that might shift Morning Musume in a bit. He’d then have 5 inexperienced members and 5 experienced members… If he wants to do that then I think he should add some eggs because they do have some sort of experience and that may even it out… We’ll see next week what happens but I do hope some eggs are added
