Morning Musume – “The Matenrou Show” Dance Shot Ver. Released

Ayuchii July 6, 2012 25

The dance shot ver. for the second song of Morning Musume’s 50th single titled The Matenrou Show has been released.

The video was provided by fans who uploaded the dance shot on YouTube after receiving their copies of the single since this particular dance shot was featured on the DVD for the Limited Edition C of this release, and many will be surprised to see the exact same set and outfits as One Two Three only with a different dance and song, and while most fans are complaining about the lack of originality, I personally would rather see this as a positive point since this way, everyone who doesn’t particularly know much about Morning Musume will be able to identify this single thanks to the outfits and set and the 2 distinctive songs.

Apart from this little notice, the dance shot is truly amazing since it’s super fast, upbeat and has many great moves from the girls with a very smart position of the members like in the beginning or when Reina/Riho are standing in the middle with all of the other girls forming a circle around them, and the fact that everyone looks so happy and that they never stop dancing makes this even more special since having so many members around even if they’re not singing makes it hard for one to take his eyes off the screen, so this might be the strong point of this fast-paced dance.

All of the members got plenty of screentime for me considering no one got solo lines apart from Reina and Riho, and after seeing the dance, I have to admit that I love this song even more with it’s funky beat and original choreography that  seemed to include some past Morning Musume moves like the arm waving movement or the little moves while clapping hands near 0:44.

Hopefully everyone can take a look and enjoy one of Momusu’s most original dances yet and one of the most fun to look at, and we’ll be waiting until the full PV for The Matenrou Show is released to see how it turns out.

Lazy costuming, terrible lyrics, and poor line distribution put this song up there with Pyoko Pyoko Ultra as my least favorite Momusu song. Come on UFA, you can do better.

I am betting the 11th gen members will have some talented singers. It would give the other girls more time to improve and give more variety than Reina and Riho.

As for the video it just seems weird to see the same set/outfits/etc. with another song.

I do expect the “complete package”/ace members to be featured most prominently. I really do understand that. But I really do also agree that the whole spirit of the idol thing and having a group of girls is to also push image and personality. I am very happy that the focus is shifting more to quality, as perhaps management has realized that they need to push a little more and not just rely completely on cute faces. It seems the push for quality (marketing, design, song, voice, dance, costumes…) is a push to try and get Morning Musume back into the mainstream everyday and not just for hardcore idol fans. However, I do believe that the shift of just Reina/Riho is too much. Hardly anyone else had lines and while they are doing their best to keep smiles on their faces and be professional, I’m sure it is very frustrating to some of the girls. I agree with another comment – he keeps making the group grow, but he isn’t really doing much with the other members. Sayumi and Reina are going to leave eventually (probably within the next year or two) and then he is left with a faceless group. The girls really need to be pushed individually as personalities like it seemed to be done int he past. It really is a big marketing thing, but also the quality of the singing of the other girls is really not bad at all. No one is really squeaky or awful, and we have some nice strong voices in there that just need to be nurtured a bit. Isn’t a talent agency about expanding, increasing, and profiting from talent?

Completely agree with everything you said. You can tell the frustration on Kanon and Erina the most in my opinion. Erina looks like she is forcing a smile, to be honest. I honestly think that if Tsunku gave more lines to the other girls, they would really shine. They all have great voices, some need more work on, but great raw voices. Hearing Riho’s all the time is really painful sometimes. She has a good voice, but I personally don’t think she’s meant for high notes. Hers is not any better than the others. Reina, well she has always been in center and lead. However, she isn’t at all the best dancer (even if her knees recently were bothering her, before that she wasn’t really a good dancer). It’s just off balance I think how the group is. It makes the 11th auditions seem pointless if this is where they are going to be, in the back.

I have thought that Erina has looked unhappy for a long time. But I doubt she will get more lines anytime soon. Her singing hasn’t improved and she is probably going to get the least lines going forward. Especially as new members join since I bet they will be pushed ahead of her.

To be honest, I think Erina is the one who is trying her hardest to improve. I think her voice is slowly improving and her dancing is much better since her debut. However, why she’s unhappy lately is because probably her hard work isn’t being really noted. She’s really trying her best to be a great member, but it’s frustrating when she’s in the back and not noticed. That’s what I think of course, I’m not Erina so I don’t know her true feelings xD.

I do hope she gets some more lines in the future! :)

I don’t mind the fact that it’s the same set and costumes. What I do mind is that yet again it’s Reina, Riho and their backing singers and dancers. Tsunku could save himself a massive amount of money on wages if he stopped pumping more and more girls into the group and just had Reina and Riho. What on earth is he going to do with more members?

I think the matenrou show MV will be released for single V promotion although it would have helped to improve sales if tsukun would have released the matenrou show MV this week of promotion

  • fungies22

it’s sad, I feel like the Eggs (Mizuki & Haruka) are still treated like Eggs….nothing more than backup dancers :(

  • Kica

This dance shot got lost for me, since the whole song sounds the same. It was hard for the video to grab my attention and I ended up not paying attention at all after a while.

  • AmandaDL

BORING! 2 out of 10 members getting solo lines. Same outfits, same set. Seriously?! Even if there is another video coming up for this song, why make this be the official dance shot version? The girls’ dancing ability was great & I like the song. But this Reina/Riho is really getting annoying. I KNOW that Reina & Riho don’t decide how many lines they get & that’s why I have nothing against them at all. It’s Tsunku who I don’t understand! And then there’s about to be an 11th generation which means even more members. Why keep adding people if they’ll only be background singers/dancers?! Sorry, just had to vent :)

  • Haruhi

I understand the hate that Reina and RIho because they are always in the lead since the last 5-ki members graduated, and the hate Tsunku is receiving for always choosing them. But nobody ever really takes into account that he puts Reina and Riho in the lead because they are the ones who are good in both singing and dancing. Their singing and dancing are both topnotch, for Reina who has almost always been a lead since she entered Momosu and Riho since her 2nd single (Only You). I really don’t undertsand all this hate. They’re good, that’s why they’re centers. I’m not saying that others aren’t good. They are, but they’re level is just not as good as Riho and Reina who are considered to be a “complete package”. I admit that Mizu-pon, Haruka, and Sayumi should at least get more lines (Since Sayu is the leader and Miuki and Haruka received training when they were eggs). They’re dancing and singing are good, but they’re under-appreciated. The others… well… they need a little bit more polishing, but they are getting better. Their voices are not as strong as the two leads (and Kanon-chan and Harunan could practice a little bit more in dancing).

So, leave Britney Reina and Riho alooooone!!

    • Kiyoko

Sometimes it look that Reina is not so good in dancing i think.

    • Belly

I don’t really hate Reina and Riho for this, but in my opinion Riho has not much more talent than the others have. Her voice is just so damn annoying to me, although I have to admit that she is good in dancing. At least the ex-eggs should be pushed a bit more I mean, where do Mizuki and Haruka not improve in both dancing and singing?

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/GDPXOGNP2PCD7BHLNAWSP5E5KQ Caliana

Oh please! Riho is great at dancing, but her singing is not the best. Reina is a good singer, but her dancing is weak. Mizuki and Ayumi can dance circles around Reina. The whole Reina and Riho hate stems from the fact that there are PLENTY of good voices in MM, but no one would ever know that because ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL we hear are Reina and Riho. Some variety would be nice!

  • ichigo3lemon

It seems a bit odd to see the same outfits/set for another song. But on the plus side I think Haruna’s dancing is improving. Mizuki is really starting to stand out and I love Ayumi’s dancing. It was nice at least everyone got some up front screen time.

    Note to Tsunku-
THIS IS MOMOSU NOT RINA!(RIHO AND REINA)
Tsunku need to know that Reina and Riho shouldn’t get alot of lines. It unfair to the other girls. Tsunku, Give the other girls more lines too! This is not Momosu at all. It’s all Rina!

    • Ria

it’s not momosu… but momusu XD

    • RainySkye

Reina and Riho are the best singers right now.The others will get more lines in the future. It was a mistake to wait so long to add new members.

  • Jacquelyn Peters

-_- I seriously wish that Tsunku would notice that there’s more
girls than just Reina and Riho >.< This shot looks like Reina, Rhio and
the Musumes! The other girls just look like back-up dancers who were paid to be
    there.

  • Britt

Are we even sure there is going to be a normal MV for this song? I don’t see it mentioned in any of the PV lists besides this dance shot and it’s the same place and costumes as One Two Three. It just seems that by now we would have heard more or seen something different.

    • AkiGaki

There’s no Mv, just the dance shot. It makes sense though! They let people be curious until the very last minute, and they put so much in promotion, something had to go, so the second PV actually seems like a smart move considering the AMAZING sales this single’s had!
Hopefully Momusu can get these types of sales more often!

      • Ayuchii

I actually think that there will be an MV, just like C-ute’s Aitai Lonely Christmas when the dance shot was released after the actual PV, I hope they are releasing the dance shot before and have the PV waiting (even though this isn’t an actual release since a fan who got their copy posted it online).
Plus, on Sayu’s blog, she hid some outfits saying they were for The Matenrou Show ^w^

The intro reminds me of Berryz’s Ryuusei Boy :D Good song though. Just too much Riho-Reina :(

  • Soquette

    Boring. Really.

    - No costume and place change. Really =___= ? (And the cotsumes are really weird)
    - Music and song are both unflavored.
    - Lazy choregrapher -> boring and unoriginal choregraphy. Even not better than a choregraphy for an album song.
    - The point of this song seems to be : “Listen Riho and Reina all the song, surrounded by their cute and … wait, who are these dancing girls at the back ? Are they really in Morning Musume. ?”

I hope the normal MV will be better… I don’t know why, but I have a big doubt.

I feel that the only argument for this fiftieth single to stand out is the huge promotion and the absurd number of versions that will be published.
