The official numbers have been released, and Morning Musume sold 100,598 and got #3 for the week! It’s not exactly 101,000, but by tomorrow they should have a couple thousand more. The post has been updated to include the correct number, but congratulations again Momusu!

Currently it has outsold the 1st week sales of 33 singles, making it the best 1st week since 2003, and it has also outsold the total sales for 28 singles. Currently it’s the best 1st week for Michishige Sayumi and Tanaka Reina since they joined, outselling the 1st week of their debut single Shabondama
With the amount of promotion this single has it was not surprising that we would see high numbers, but I’m really happy that those numbers exceeded my expectations since it’s amazing news for all Momusu fans. It might be due to the amount and quality of promotion since the group has appeared in quite a lot of places and held a lot of events, so I hope that UFA does continue to provide this amount of promotion for future releases since it does pay off. That and the new sound definitely mix well to provide an amazing single that appealed to quite a lot of people.
It’s only one single and we still have to see if the numbers continue to rise with each release from now on or at least remain steady, but for now at least it’s a great moment for all Momusu fans, both in the amount of sales for this single as well as the 50th consecutive top 10 since they have shown that after 9 years they still have what it takes to compete against other idol groups.
It will be interesting to see how their next single does, and if UFA will keep up the amount of promotion, but for now:
Congratulations Morning Musume!
